New And Improved (UPDATED)

TAH-DAH!

And here we are! The new and improved** ThePajamaPundit.com! Take a look around. Check out the new features. Give me some feedback if you have a comment or two (or five).

I decided some months ago that I was going to do a top-down re-design of the site. Since the last revamp of the site, I have learned much in the way of HTML/CSS and thought that it was time to put that knowledge to good use. With my impending employment -- and its impact on when and how I blog -- I thought this would be a good time to make the design change.

The first thing that you will likely notice is the featured story section. This is large improvement over the former featured slide-show. If you click on the 'featured' box, a preview pane is revealed so that you have direct access to each story. When viewing an individual picture, you can click on either the title and blurb or the picture itself, and you will be taken to that story page.

Underneath the featured section are two sub-feature boxes. I plan on using these two for site news, featured videos, shameless promotion of the store, and just about anything else that tickles my fancy.

In the sidebar to the right, you'll notice that I have the RSS feed, Facebook link and Twitter feed prominently displayed. Underneath some ad-space, I have again included some recent comments.

At the bottom of the sidebar, you will see what I call a 'live news feed'. Using Google's Ajax API, I have customized what is essentially a headline generator. There are nearly 30 sites that I visit daily -- and each one has the two most recent headlines to be published. At the top of the feed there is a small blurb for each story, and the code automatically scrolls through each entry. You can also roll-over a headline with your mouse and the code automatically displays that story in the blurb area. Try it out... it's a good time.

In the actual post area, not a lot has changed. I have once again included the various social bookmarking links (Digg, Technorati, Delicious, StumbleUpon, et al) and I would encourage readers to use them (I do!). While I have done away with the author icons at the top of each post, there is still a clear credit to the post's writer (in bold) underneath the post title.

The major different with the blog posts are the width. I wanted to have more room for videos and pictures to fall in-line with text. Therefore, I upgraded the blog column from just over 500 pixels to 640 pixels.

That about sums-it-up folks. As I said, have a look around and hit me with your thoughts.

[UPDATE:: Everything seems to be in good working order -- except for the Disqus commenting system. I worked most of yesterday trying to fix the bug, and lost some sleep last night thinking about it. Unfortunately, my feeble human brain cannot find the problem. The worst part about it is the fact that the comments worked just fine on my 'dummy' site -- but are giving me difficulties here. I've reached out to the folks at Disqus and will keep you posted. Until then, if you have a pressing comment, e-mail me and I will post your excellent analysis.]
