Sorkin To Write And Direct Adaptaion Of John Edward's Story

Aaron Sorkin, acclaimed writer of projects such as The West Wing, Charlie Wilson's War, the forthcoming The Social Network and legendary sports dramedy series Sportsnight, is once again setting his creative sights on the political world.
Now [Sorkin is] looking to debut as a director with an adaptation of The Politician, which charts the aspirations and downfall of Senator John Edwards, who campaigned for the 2008 Democratic Presidential nomination.

Deadline says Sorkin optioned Andrew Young’s book The Policitian: An Insider’s Account of John Edwards’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down and will write the script and produce the film. Right now there is no studio involved.
I was a huge fan of both The West Wing and ill-fated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. A co-worker lent the two-season DVD set of Sportsnight to TPW and I (thanks Lynn & Drew) -- and we burned through the series quickly because it too was a fantastic show.

For my money, there is very little that Sorkin touches that isn't good. I'll definitely be watching to see when this film comes to fruition.
