Sunshine State Update: Charlie Crist Still On Top

...even though he left the GOP, Crist is still fairing well with voters:
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist remains on top in a three-way battle for the Senate, according to a new poll. And a Quinnipiac University survey released Friday also indicates that strong name recognition and a positive approval rating may be helping Crist as he makes an independent bid for the state's open Senate seat.

Thirty-seven percent of Florida voters questioned in the poll say they'll back Crist, with 32 percent supporting former Sunshine State House Speaker Marco Rubio, the presumptive Republican nominee, 17 percent backing billionaire real estate investor Jeff Greene, a Democratic Senate candidate, and 14 percent undecided.
I have to say that this surprises me. However, I don't think that this is a bad thing. Crist has governed from the middle. He is was a moderate Republican who, for example, supported the stimulus. While his many conservative critics have been attacking him, it seems that the folks in Florida like someone who sits somewhere in the middle.

Yet another interesting race on which I shall keep an eye...
