Michele Bachmann: 'I Promise $2-A-Gallon Gasoline'

"Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again," Bachmann told a crowd Tuesday in South Carolina. "That will happen."
...what? Really Congresswoman Bachmann?

There are two things wrong with this assertion by the Congresswoman/Presidential candidate.

1: This statement presupposes that the President of the United States has the power to dramatically change the cost of gasoline. The last time that I checked, the price of a barrel of oil was not set by the President, the Congress, or anyone in the greater metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. No, the price of gasoline is set by world markets, OPEC, and far more international influence that even the President can claim.

2: Have politicians learned nothing from George H.W. Bush's famous "Read my lips" line and the result?

Go ahead Congresswoman -- make that promise. Surely, it will come back to haunt you.

[ed. note: Yeah, so I totally mis-spelled the Congresswoman's name in the post title. It's now fixed and my apologies to Mrs. Bachann. With two Ns.]
