Rick Santorum To Reporter: "It's Bullshit"

Sorry about the ad...

So, the big stink from this weekend is Rick Santorum's exclamation that New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny was trying to 'distort his words'.

"If I see it, it's bullshit", said the former Senator from Pennsylvania.

Personally, I don't like Rick Santorum. I think that his candidacy is all wrong for the Republican party nomination -- much less the actual Presidency.

However, I think that this moment-that-Santorum-probably-wishes-hadn't-been-caught-on-camera is very telling.

To me, Rick Santorum usually comes off as aloof and, well, like the proverbial 'goody-two-shoes'. The guy is, or appears to be, very clean-cut. Non-controversial.

Call me crazy, but I tend to like a candidate more if they can show a little (or a lot of) emotion. The fact that Santorum got so frustrated with Zeleny that he cussed at him shows me that Santorum is a normal guy. He gets worked up about stuff. In an era when people increasingly put candidates on a pedestal, something like this humanizes him.

All of that said, I still believe that Santorum is the wrong guy for the nomination.

Now, via GOP12, Santorum is trying to explain his remarks:
If you haven't cursed out a New York Times reporter during the course of a campaign, you're not really a real Republican is the way I look at it.

It was just one of these harassing moments, and after having answered the question a few times, sort of comes back with the same old question, the same old spin.

I just said 'Okay, I've had enough of this you-know-what.'

And so that's what I did. Look, we're out there slugging away. We're the candidate out there that's mixing it up, and we're mixing it up.
So, he's embracing the remark. I think that this is the winning strategy.

Santorum should, and appears to be using this moment as an opportunity to show that he can stand-up to the big, bad 'liberal media'.
